Jacana Media is an independent publishing house founded in 2002. It is a public interest, and frequently oppositional, publisher with a mission to assist social change, enrich public discourse and amplify progressive voices in order to create a more inclusive, just and equitable country. Jacana’s non-fiction publishing focuses on, amongst many others, issues ofpoverty, race, justice, land, redress, decoloniality, colonialism, apartheid and the environment. Since their inception they have created new markets to publish for and distribute in in southern Africa and through public and media engagement they have shifted South African narratives for the greater good. Jacana Media is critically seen as a home for the nation’s leading progressive thinkers, journalists, academics, activists, debut novelists, and old and new authors.
