South Africa

South Africans know little of their own past let alone that of other South Africans who have a different language as mother tongue. Conceived in rural Vuwani during a discussion between four friends - a Tshivenda speaker, two Xitsonga speakers, one of Vhatsonga heritage the other amaShangaan, and an English speaking South African - on the first meeting of their ancestors and the role of the Portuguese in those early encounters. Written in English to ensure accessibility Our Story is designed to be read in the language classroom to improve literacy while providing valuable information to young and older readers. Each story is restricted to 10 000 words and 48 beautifully illustrated pages. See our website for extracts from these titles.
