Jacana Literary Foundation logo

The Jacana Literary Foundation (JLF) is a registered non-profit company based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Established in 2013 as a way of championing fiction writers who are just beginning their careers, the JLF’s mission is to promote and foster excellent writing from southern Africa. The JLF is home to various awards and prizes: The Dinaane Debut Fiction Award, The Sol Plaatje Poetry Award and Anthology for Poetry (in all eleven South African official languages) and the Gerald Kraak Prize for Writing and Photography of African Perspectives on Gender, Social Justice, and Sexuality – the latter of which is the only prize that covers all forms of writing and printable art on the African continent. Books that emerge from the various awards are published by JLF’s book publishing partner, Jacana Media.
