Fundza Literacy Trust logo

The FunDza Literacy Trust believes that reading changes lives. Its mission is to get young South Africans - specifically those from poor backgrounds with little access to books - reading and writing for pleasure. Through FunDza's 'cellphone library' - fundza.mobi - it is creating, commissioning, curating and publishing new local stories, books, blogs and articles to inspire a lifelong love of reading and stories. More than 200,000 unique users connect with FunDza's network every month.

FunDza's innovative approach to developing readers and writers has received local and international recognition. In 2017, it was awarded the inaugural Joy of Reading Award, a Gold Impumelelo Social Innovation Award, and the UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy.
